For a Leisurely Stroll and a Drink
Nyhavn or The New Harbor is a famous water front in Copenhagen, stretching from the Kongens Nytorv to the Royal Playhouse. The street is full of restaurants overlooking colorful buildings from the 17th century. The outdoor restaurants look over the meandering canal lined with small boats. There are also small shops selling hot drinks, ice creams, souvenirs, hot dogs and knickknacks.

There is a memorial anchor (Mindeankeret) at the entrance of Nyhavn commemorating the Navy soldiers and officiers who lost their lives during the Second World War.

Sometimes, there are street musicians playing a warm tune.

We have been here many times—in summer as well as winter. The Nyhavn Christmas Markets are one of the well-known in the city. People were swarming the shops, ignoring the cold. We had hot chocolates to warm up—the shop also had hot glogg (mulled wine) as it was Christmas season.

On summer days, we have seen the tourists waiting for DFDS Canal Tours, which also starts from here. We had the one from Gammel Strand. The boats would also be sailing in the pleasant waters. There was a refugee ship by the company, M/S Anton promoting a debate on refugees and sustainable developments.

The outdoor restaurants are usually filled with people enjoying a drink and the sumptuous view over the canal. There are a plethora of restaurants of varied cuisines from Thai to Chinese to Italian. We have one of our favorite Italian restaurant La Sirene, which is a little away from the main street.

Nyhavn is one of the best places in Copenhagen for people watching. The tourist and local crowd will cheer you up irrespective of the season!
